Yet again Mercian

Louise Kemeny in "Archeology of Words — Geoffrey Hill's Mercian Hymns (The Literateur, September 27, 2009) says that the second hymn verset of the poem gives us a riddle right out of the Anglo-Saxon period, which "relied heavily upon the manipulation of idiom and phonetic word play." Speaking of word play, to what extent should one consider word breaks in a prose poem?
